Japan, MeECL collaboration for Umiam power station uplift

SHILLONG: The officials of Japanese agencies held a meeting with MeECL officers to explore the renovation of Umiam-Umtru Stage-III power station at Kyrdemkulai, Ri Bhoi.
In this regard a kick-off meeting among the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Study Team jointly organised by Tokyo Electric Power Services Co. Ltd. (TEPSCO), TEPCO Holding Inc. and TEPCO Power Grid Inc. and officers of Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) was held in the presence of PS Thangkhiew, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman cum-Managing Director MeECL on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer, MeECL informed that the meeting was held to discuss an action plan for the preparatory survey of Umiam-Umtru Stage-III power station at Kyrdemkulai.
The purpose of the survey is for the renovation and modernisation of Umiam-Umtru Stage-III power station. It was commissioned in 1979 and had already crossed the useful life of 35 years. The survey is expected to be completed in March 2018.
