TURA: Residents of Moulakandi in West Garo Hills have submitted a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner over incomplete works on projects under taken by the Village Employment Council (VEC) while at the same time hinting at misappropriation of funds by its secretary.

According to the residents, two VEC projects- Embankment with boulder sausage and pitching at Moulakandi (868) and Community Land development and retaining Wall at Moulakandi (1126) have been abandoned with only 30% of the work completed. The residents added that while some job card holders have been paid their wages, payment is yet to be made to around 80 job card holders despite their MIS already having been done.

The residents alleged that the sanction for both wages and material components has been misappropriated by the VEC secretary.

Earlier, in June this year, A RTI was filed with Block Development Officer (BDO) of Selsella Development Block seeking information as well as copies of records on the two projects, reply to which is still to be given even after the passing of over three months.

In their letter to the deputy commissioner, the residents requested for  a judicial probe into the matter.

On August 1, the request made to the BDO for a probe by residents did not materialize.
