SHILLONG: Residents of Lower Mawprem led by R. Paul met the SP (city), Vivek Syiem to complain against four youths who assaulted a man claiming to be a Congress supporter and three of his family members.
Speaking to reporters, Paul said it was at 11:30 pm on Tuesday that a group of four youths assaulted him and pushed his wife, mother and brother while they tried to stop them.
Later, he informed that the youth were taken to Lumdiengjri Police station but were released on the same day.
Meanwhile, a Congress member, wishing anonymity, has condemned the incident with the group not even sparing female members.
The Congress member has requested the police to expedite their investigation into the case and nab the culprits at the earliest. The member has also urged the police to take the security concerns of people in the constituency seriously.
Recently, the Synjuk ki Dorbar Shnong, West Shillong, an umbrella body of ten dorbars (village councils), has urged political parties vying for the 2018 Assembly elections from West Shillong to refrain from an aggressive campaign.
