SHILLONG: The employee of Tura Civil Hospital whose video in inebriated condition went viral has been suspended and a summary inquiry has been ordered for his subsequent termination.
Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi, who is also the chairman of the Hospital Management Society, Tura Civil Hospital, said the management took the matter seriously and “such criminal misconduct will not be tolerated”.
Further, he said the hospital authorities reported that the employee, Biju Hajong, has had a record of alcoholism.
He was also sent to rehabilitation in the past for three months.
“However, sadly, for all the genuine concerns the doctors showed for his addiction, he has lamentably shown no improvement. We feel sorry for his family,” Deputy Commisionner Pravin Bakshi added.
The video which was circulated on social media showed the Grade IV employee at Tura Hospital lying on the floor and speaking in a drunken stupor.
The story of Hajong is just the tip of the iceberg and this has exposed the inefficiency and weak authority of the custodian of the hospital.
