TURA: Pressure groups in North Garo Hills have threatened to picket the deputy commissioner’s office if the two non-tribal government officials from Assam are not removed.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had assured the groups that Rahul Medhi, an assistant programme manager, and Dhrubo Jyoti Das, IT professional at DRDA, would be removed because their voters’ ID cards showed they were citizens of Assam, said the pressure groups and added that nothing was done so far.
The groups, which include GSU and FKJGP, said they would picket the DC office on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“We will also picket the office of the Block Development Officer, Resubelpara, and the District Rural Development Agency on October 11, 12 and 13. If the government ignores us and fails to act, we will resort to other course of action until our demands are met,” the groups said in a statement.
Earlier on July 21, a complaint was submitted to Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu and ADC P K Boro seeking removal of the officials. The groups also condemned the four MLAs from Bajengdoba, Resubelpara, Mendipathar and Kharkutta for being silent on the issue.
