SHILLONG: A four-member delegation of Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) met Chief Minister Mukul Sangma requesting the state government to extend pension benefits to retired college teachers of state-aided institutions following the recommendations of the 5th Meghalaya State Pay Commission on October 6.
The delegation impressed upon the chief minister to extend the benefits without categorisation of teachers on the basis of year of retirement and that the benefits needed to be on a par with the other government employees.
The team comprised the association’s vice president, Manash Das Gupta, general secretary, M N Bhattacharjee, treasurer, Abhijit Deb Roy and joint secretary, T. S. Rajee. Sangma gave a patient hearing to the delegation and reiterated the commitment of the government in ushering positive action to propagate inclusive all-round growth in the state.
The delegation thanked the chief minister for his positive thoughts and commitments, a statement issued by the association said.
