GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday received Governor designate Jagdish Mukhi at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar in the city. Mukhi is scheduled to take oath as the Governor of Assam on Tuesday.

Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who was the Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has been appointed as Governor of Assam by President Ramnath Kovind in place of Banwarilal Purohit, who has been appointed as the governor of Tamil Nadu.

The chief minister welcomed the Governor designate and expressed confidence that Assam would be taken on the path of development and prosperity by the state government under the able guidance of that new Governor.

Sonowal hoped that the governor designate, who was awarded the Best Finance and Planning Minister by the then Planning Minister, Pranab Mukherjee in 1997 and best MLA by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi in 2002, would offer his advice and guidance to the state government from his rich administrative experiences and help the government achieve its goals.
