SHILLONG: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Saleng Sangma raised the issue of illegal immigration by saying 28 households in his constituency do not belong there.
The legislator from Gambegre in West Garo Hills said people have even availed themselves of various government schemes like the Megha Health Insurance Scheme which can be done after an EPIC card is produced. “They are not citizens of my constituency. I have written to the CEO over the issue,” he told reporters.
Talking about inclusive growth, Sangma said he discussed financial inclusion of women with Governor Ganga Prasad.
He added that most farmers are not aware or clear that the scheme includes Rs 5,000 seed money and Rs 20,000 loan component.
According to him, it has become a big problem for these farmers who lack banking and its system and clarity of the said scheme.
Sangma has urged the government to consider waving off the loan component as a whole or at least the interest acquired in it to ease out the financial problems and bank harassment being faced by them.
