SHILLONG: Police have decided to challenge the anticipatory bail granted to the accused women involved in assaulting and cutting the hair of three girls at Pynthor on September 14.
On September 26, eight members of the Seng Longkmie of Pynthor were detained in connection with the crime but they were released later.
Though the police had expected more members who were involved in the case to be present in the Pasteur Beat House the next day, they did not turn up and instead obtained bail from the District Council Court.
Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said on Tuesday that the police had written to the government lawyer to appeal before the High Court against the bail, but later it was decided to challenge the bail in the District Council Court when the matter will come up in November.
The three girls were publicly assaulted on the night of September 14 when a group of women from
the locality cut their hair, besides beating them with a stick and scissors.
After a video clipping of the act surfaced, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing lodged an FIR with the officer in charge of Pasteur Beat House, Polo.
