50-bed maternity and child hospital to come up at Umsning

NONGPOH: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma laid the foundation stone of fifty bedded Maternity and Child Hospital to be constructed at Umran Niangbyrnai Parila village under Umsning Constituency at Ri Bhoi district on Wednesday.
The government has proposed Rs 14 crores for the construction of the MHC Hospital where in the first phase Rs. 4.50 crores was sanctioned for the commencement of the construction works.
Besides, the laying of the foundation stone of the hospital, Sangma also inaugurated the multipurpose facility centre constructed at an estimated amount of Rs. 40 lakh and the internal blacktopped road of Umran Niangbyrnai Parila village which was constructed under General Scheme at the estimated amount of Rs. 1.57 crores.
The inaugural function was also attended by State Health Minister Roshan Warjri, state minister of PHE department and local MLA of Umsning, Celestine Lyngdoh, parliament secretary in-charge of Tourism, Kennedy Khyriem, secretary GAD and IAS, HM Shangpliang, Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, CP Gotmare and others officers from the line departments.
“To fulfill all the requirements of the people for change, we need a collective responsibility” Sangma said, adding that the Congress government is a responsive government, so also different programmes and policies have been implemented in order to improve socio-economic condition of the people in the state.
He also said that healthcare facilities are a challenge to the Congress Government in the state. The construction of the MCH Hospital is one of the initiatives of the government to decrease the maternity and child death rate in the state as most women are compelled to deliver their child at home due to unavailability of a maternity hospital, the CM reiterated.
“As roads are the backbone of our economy, the road sector is also one of the main agenda of the Congress government that better roads should be connected to the rural villages as to promote their all-round development mainly socio-economic condition,” he added.
Hence, he called upon the local people of the state to have a collective responsibility, so that more changes and developments will be taken place in the state.
