AICC downplays desertions in State

SHILLONG: The AICC has downplayed the issue of desertion of its MLAs to other political parties and asserted that the party was prepared to deal with the situation.
The AICC secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Vijayalaxmi Sadho, who is camping in Shillong, said the party knew for the last one year about the plan of some MLAs to quit.
“We were prepared for it and hence there is no cause for worry,” Sadho said.
The party has already identified alternate candidates to ensure victory of the Congress in the next elections following the desertions.
Sadho also met the functionaries of Congress Shillong city and held interactions with Shillong city president and former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope and other party members.
The AICC leader will visit Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi in the coming days before she leaves on October 14.
The general secretary of MPCC, Sanjay Das, said the meeting discussed the preparedness of the party for the 2018 polls.
The meeting also discussed the issues related to the implementation of GST and the sufferings caused to the traders in the city.
Das said the party will carry out campaigns against the faulty implementation of GST.
The party leader said that the Congress will secure maximum seats both in the city constituencies and elsewhere.
