SHILLONG: Though some Congress legislators are keen to join NPP, MPCC president DD Lapang said on Thursday that the party did not want to take any action against them.
“We have not seen the legislators openly taking part in the meetings of other political parties,” Lapang told reporters on Thursday.
He also said since only a few months are left for the elections, action against them is not necessary.
The Congress legislators who are set to join other political parties include Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Ngaitlang Dhar and suspended Congress legislator PN Syiem.
The MPCC chief also hinted that some legislators may join the Congress.
No hidden agenda with UDP-HSPDP
The MPCC chief denied the rumours that the party has a hidden understanding with UDP-HSPDP alliance to form a coalition government after the 2018 polls.
“These are only rumours, we expect to get majority in the polls,” he said.
Lapang said the party expects to get more seats since the grassroots workers are united.
To a question, Lapang said that in the post-poll scenario, some Independents may support the Congress.
According to Lapang, in the extreme situation, the party will contact likeminded and ‘friendly parties’ to form the government.
