10-yr-old escapes from kidnappers
NONGSTOIN: A 10-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from a West Khasi Hills village on Wednesday, managed to escape and narrate the incident to her family. Ridashisha K Rongrin, daughter of Raphael K Snar of Nongjri village, was kidnapped by a group six miscreants, including a woman, when she was resting in her father’s hut along the road. Two men gagged her with a piece of cloth and took her into the forest around 500 meters away from the hut. Three more men and a woman were waiting inside the forest. The men left her with the woman who held her by hand. Ridashisha, while trying to free herself, bit the woman’s hand and fled. She met her father on the way and told him what had happened. Snar lodged an FIR at Riangdo police station on Thursday. A case has been registered and police are trying to find the motive behind the kidnap attempt.

BDU organises awareness prog
SHILLONG: The Basin Development Unit (BDU), East Garo Hills, organised a one-day Entrepreneurship awareness programme at District Auditorium, Williamnagar on October10 where a large number of entrepreneurs and students from various schools and colleges participated. The objective of conducting the programme is to create awareness among the youth for taking up of various entrepreneurship and skill development activities.

NEMA natl conference concludes
SHILLONG: The North Eastern Management Association (NEMA) on Wednesday decided to collaborate with corporate organisation of the region to facilitate research, capacity building and business partnership for enhancing sustainable livelihood opportunities in North East. The two-day national conference of NEMA concluded on Wednesday and a decision was taken that the outcomes of the key deliberations would be shared with stakeholders and government for the betterment of business, growth of industry, entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities. The next annual national conference of NEMA would be held in Manipur University.

6-yr-old raped in WKH
NONGSTOIN: A six-year-old girl was raped by her uncle in West Khasi Hills on Tuesday. Nongstoin Police registered a case against Aibor Baphylla Pynjanai Ialade Hi Nongsiej of Siejlieh on Thursday. Aibor raped the girl at her grandmother’s house at Siejlieh. The accused escaped after an FIR was lodged.

Walk for the blind
SHILLONG: Project Vision North East organized ‘Walk for the blind, Shillong’ to raise awareness on eye donations here on Thursday.Over 500 people participated in the event organised on account of World Sight Day. The rally started from Shillong Club to Police Bazaar was led by blind people and others were blind folded. Participants took pledge to donate eyes while a skit was also presented by the Optometrists of Bansara Institute of Ophthalmic Sciences on eye donation.

Overloaded trucks fined
SHILLONG: Amlarem Police police has realized a fine of Rs 98000 from eight ten wheeler trucks carry boulder stones for overloading at the Amlarem-Dawki road. The police said the trucks were found to exceed the permissible gross load of 25 tonnes. “As against the permissible gross load of 25 tonnes, the trucks were found to exceed 40 tonnes and accordingly they have been compounded under the MV Act,” the police said.The overloaded boulders were dropped at Amsarin Weight Bridge for auctioning by the forest department.

Forgery of signatures detected
SHILLONG: TMG Momin, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Dadenggre, Civil Sub-Division lodged a complaint that she detected forged signatures in the original applications forms for Caste certificates of Paritosh Das, Biswajit Das and Ananda Das.

Renewal of licences
SHILLONG: The Civil Sub Divisional Officer (S), Sohra has informed that the terms of functioning of all Fair Price Shop and SK Oil dealers will expire on December 31, and directed all Fair Price Shops and SK Oil dealers within Sohra Civil Sub Division to submit the applications forms for renewal of appointment order/license for the year 2018 which can be obtaianed from the Civil Sub Division office along with the recommendation of the village Durbar on or before November 15. Detailed information can be obtained from the same office.
