Rifle, pellets seized in JH
JOWAI: The police have seized a rifle from Nongbareh rim village which is 18 kms from Amlarem, Jaintia Hills. Acting on inputs, SDPO and team from Amlarem conducted a late night raid at a house in the village and seized one muzzle loading rifle along with 41 numbers of pellets. In this connection Rhoh Pohtang (35) has been arrested and further interrogation is on.

BJP organises training camp in city
SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 19-south Shillong Mandal, held a polling booth meeting cum training camp at the Rilbong Community Hall. The programme was attended by Ranjit Majumder, OSD to Assam chief minister and former BJP Meghalaya Pradesh coordinator, Rupam Goswami, media convenor, spokesperson and panelist  BJP, Assam Pradesh. Shibun Lyngdoh, president BJP Meghalaya along with his state committee leaders were also present in the programme.

District level arts & culture competition held at Ampati

AMPATI: The district-level Arts and Culture competition was organised by Ampati Arts and Cultural Society in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture for the school students of South West Garo Hills at Ampati Multi-Facility Centre on Friday. The programme included competition for eight events, including, quiz, debate, cartooning, painting, folk song, folk dance and musical instruments. The first prize winners of these competitions have been selected to participate in the State-level arts and culture competition which will be held in Shillong next week. ADC & member secretary, Ampati Arts and Cultural Society, MT Sangma gave away the prizes to the winners of the competition in various events. In her brief address before the prize distribution, she spoke about the focus being given by the government to promote culture and tradition of the people, adding that this competition was part of the government’s efforts toward this end.

Students to trek living root bridge to boost tourism
SHILLONG: As part of the “Paryatan Parv” initiative of Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with other Central Ministries and State Governments across the country from October 5 to 25, a trek to Living Root Bridge at Mawkyrnot, Pynursla has been organised on October 19 for the school children .The initiative has been taken by NEC in collaboration with North East Tourism Development Council (NETDC), Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Campfire Trails. The objective of the Paryatan Parv is to draw focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country. The secretary, NEC will flag off the heritage walk at 9.00 am on October 19 from the NEC Secretariat premises, Nongrim Hills.

IIT-G organises workshop at RIST
SHILLONG: A three-day workshop on ‘Building Small Office Networks’ was inaugurated by Dr Gaurav Trivedi, Assistant Professor & Co PI, E & ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) on Friday. The workshop, organised by E&ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati, was an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It is being conducted in association with Department of Computer Science & Engineering RIST and supported by Techvictus Consultancy Services, New Delhi. “This workshop is a part of a series of events that are being conducted across the region to fulfil the objectives of the Prime Minister’s twin initiatives for skilling and digitalising India.” Trivedi said adding that the goal of IIT was not only to progress for itself but also to take the North Eastern region forward in the path of progress.
