KSU demands power for SWKH village

MAWKYRWAT: KSU Ranikor circle on Thursday demanded electricity be provided to Photeitsim village, 3 km from Ranikor, South West Khasi Hills.
Ranikor circle president Marconi Thongni said this village is one among the old villages in the area in which it is recognised as the village by the Chief (Syiem) of Hima Maharam since 1996 and it has entered in the census since 2001. This village has 30 houses and more than 200 populations.
“This village is among the villages which were neglected by the local MLA, M.G. Danggo as well as the state governments in the past,” Thongni said, adding that the KSU has met the officers of MeECL many times on this matter, but till now they have not started the work even though the officials from the office has started surveying the villages.  
The Union has recently met the Chief Engineer of this office in which the leaders has informed him about the expectation of the people especially during exams in which school children needs to read and write at night, Thongni said, adding that the officer has promised them that soon the work will be started and should be completed within this year.
No power supply in WGH
Meanwhile, the power supply in some areas of West Garo Hills has been affected. In Dakopgre area there has been no electricity on Thursday since noon and the residents here are agitated. In Phulbari, there was no power supply at all on Thursday. There has been irregular power supply which has irked the residents.It is reported that this area is the hometown of Meghalaya Speaker AT Mondal and it seems he has a huge generator in his house.The public wants answers from the government for the frequent power cuts in the area.
