TURA: Once inseparable in their fight to bring Tura town under the Danakgre A’king traditional domain, the Danakgre A’king Nokma, Enilla Ch Marak appears to have now parted ways with her mentor, Bernard Rimpu N Marak.

On Friday, she filed a police complaint against the former ANVC (B) Chairman who was once anointed by her as the Tura town Nokma cum secretary.

The police complaint filed by the Danakgre Nokma at Araimile Police Outpost accuses the former militant chief of using her letter pad and seal without her knowledge.

It may be recalled that earlier, Enilla had sought assistance from Bernard in matters relating to the a’king. She had also appointed Bernard as the Tura Town Nokma and helped him open an illegal Nokma office at Babupara, where citizens were even directed by Bernard to register their land pattas.

However, there was stiff opposition from citizens over the issue which led to the closing down of the illegal office as well as stripping Bernard of his self-styled nokmaship.

In Friday’s FIR, the lady Nokma demanded Bernard’s arrest as well as appropriate actions taken against him at the earliest.

The ‘change of heart’ by the Danakgre nokma doesn’t appear to have many takers given that she had steadfastly backed the former militant chief for months despite public opinion turning against her.

It was only after the Chambugong clan, to which Enilla Marak belongs, held a large public rally against the ANVC-B chairman seeking his arrest and moved the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council to strip her of the nokmaship that the situation dramatically changed with the nokma distancing herself.
