SHILLONG: In a novel initiative, NCP central leader Praful Patel, who could not make it to the scheduled meeting in Tura on Saturday due to the inclement weather, talked to the gathering via mobile phone and it was amplified to the people.
“Since the chopper carrying him and others could not land in Tura due to the rain, he could not come for the meeting,” said Independent legislator Saleng Sangma, who is associated with NCP.
However, Saleng said since the party did not want to disappoint the huge gathering, Patel spoke over phone to a state party leader which was amplified through mike to the gathering at the District Library in Tura.
The NCP leader said Patel first wished the people of Garo Hills and wanted residents to extend support to NCP in the upcoming polls.
Saleng said the chopper carrying Patel and others from Guwahati had to return midway due to adverse weather conditions.
“However, the central leader assured the party members that he will come back later,” Saleng said.
