NONGPOH: With barely four months left for Assembly polls in the state, the Nongpoh Block Congress Committee has recommended D.D Lapang as the party candidate from Nongpoh constituency.
Lapang is the lone candidate from the constituency.
The committee recommended his name in the general meeting of the party held at D M Hall here on Saturday.
Besides, more than hundreds of non-Congress supporters, a majority of whom were from the UDP and NPP, shifted allegiance by joining Congress in a show of support to Lapang. This was announced by Mayrald Born Syiem, the president of Nongpoh Block Congress Committee, in the meeting.
Lapang welcomed all the non-Congress supporters who shifted allegiance to the party.
Speaking at the meeting, Lapang lauded the Congress supporters and leaders for their support to the party to usher in a change in the constituency and district.
He also urged the supporters to be humble in the party for changes and the changes can be taken place only when the supporters know the value of their one vote, he said.
Lapang said the Congress has contributed so much change in the state where countless developments have taken place and people have benefitted from them.
“The Congress is still wanted by the people as they aspire for more change in the state. So the only way to bring more change in the state is that the party will have to come to power again for which it will need the absolute support of the people,” he said.
