SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has formed the People’s Democratic Front Zonal Committee in Nartiang and fielded Draison Kharshiing as their candidate from the constituency for the Assembly elections.
In his speech, Kharshiing, a former MLA (2003-2008) from Nartiang constituency and three times MDC (1989-1994, 1994-1999, 1999-2004) from Moobakhon-Khanduli constituency, assured the electorate that half of his salary would be donated to the public and for the uplift of society if people vote for him.
“I have no doubt that I will come back as an MLA from Nartiang constituency and I know that the people will support me in order to usher in a change in the society,” he said.
Braving the rain, Kharshiing, along with a thousand strong supporters, gathered at Sohphoh village to join the party. Crowds who came to attend the meeting sheltered themselves from the rain by sitting inside vehicles, resting sheds, schools and houses.
PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang expressed satisfaction that the party has been able to sow its seeds in Jaintia Hills. He said the party stood for the rights of the people of Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
Kharshiing is set for a face-off with sitting Congress MLA Sniawbhalang Dhar in the election. According to reports, Dhar may join the National People’s Party (NPP).
