SHILLONG: Though Shillong is a capital city but the street lighting in the city is far from being satisfactory and the stretch from Shillong Civil Hospital till Jhalupara taxi stand is one such stretch where there are hardly any street lights functioning.

In the entire stretch of 2 kilometers, only four major lights are functioning including two at Rhino point, one near ITBP headquarter and one in Rilbong point whereas the entire stretch remains under thick darkness in the evening.

If one walks on the road after 9 pm, it seems that the entire stretch is a ghost area with hardly any street lights working.

When contacted, officials from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited said that it was the Shillong Cantonment Board which usually provided all the required materials to the corporation for street lighting.

The official added that they would take up the matter with the Shillong Cantonment Board and the lights would be repaired if the Board provided the materials to the corporation.
