SHILLONG: With the state gearing up for Assembly elections in the next four months, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central body has reiterated the issue of enrollment of dubious voters in the state.

Speaking to reporters after apprising P.S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, on the matter, secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah said that political candidates often take the names of outsiders to get a vote bank.

Expressing concern that because of dubious voters, the demography of the state will change, he pointed out  that  some people would seek for an EPIC card in the state  after being in the state for the ‘last 40-50 years’ adding  “Where had  they been all these years?”

The DC assured them that cases of dubious voters would be checked and that they would be authenticated. He  alleged that agents of different political parties often came with names of dubious voters.

Thabah urged political candidates not to entertain dubious voters only to gain a potential vote bank.
