TURA: The National People’s Party (NPP) has decided to field its sitting MDC in the GHADC against sitting Congress MLA and two time legislator Lemison Sangma from Raksamgre constituency of West Garo Hills.
Announcing the candidature of Benedict R Marak at a large public rally in Raksamgre on Wednesday, the Tura Lok Sabha M,  Conrad K Sangma said that the time had come for a change.
“Farmers from Raksamgre have always been progressive but due to poor roads their produce does not  reach the right market in time causing immeasurable loss to their economy. If voted to power, we will ensure roads are given top priority under the NPP government,” said the Tura MP while targeting sitting Congress MLA Lemison Sangma for failing to bring about transformation to Raksamgre.
He further said that the delivery mechanism for government welfare programmes had been a failure due to poor road conditions.
Pointing out the impact digitisation has had in the country and Garo Hills, the Tura MP said that people were tech savvy in today’s world and aware of the developmental scenarios across the country.
“As the MP of Tura I held a series of meetings with service providers for installation of mobile towers in the rural areas. After all, we live in a digital age where connectivity is very important for all engagements. We cannot afford to be left out,” said Conrad Sangma and announced to the crowd that Airtel, Jio and Aircel had given a commitment to improve mobile service all over Garo Hills.
The Tura MP also elaborated on the education scenario prevailing in Garo Hills  particularly in the unreachable and hilly areas.
“Teachers play a very vital role in our society and efforts will have to be made to resolve issues related with the teaching fraternity,” said Conrad Sangma.
The Raksamgre contest is expected to be a major battle between the Congress and its arch rival NPP.
While the Congress held sway for two consecutive legislative terms, the NPP made its presence by dramatically winning the district council seat, two years ago.
