SHILLONG: Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship, Anant Kumar Hegde has asserted that the Centre would look into the idea of opening more Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in Meghalaya if there was a proposal from the state government.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the ITI in the city on Wednesday, Hegde said the Centre usually does not open ITIs on it its own and that the request has to come from the state government.
On the lack of awareness reflected by less participation of youths from the state to avail benefits under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the minister said the ministry would work with the state government to make people aware about the scheme, even in clusters of villages.
The minister visited the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra in Demseiniong and the ITI in Rynjah on Wednesday and interacted with students and authorities.
