SHILLONG: A poor woman in the city who was suffering from brain tumor and could not afford the treatment got a new lease life after Robin Hood Army, Shillong chapter, intervened to facilitate treatment for her.

The 35-year-old-lady was suffering from brain tumor and was in a critical condition as she could not afford the treatment. The Robin Hood Army, Shillong chapter, came to know about the woman and decided to help the poor woman through its intervention, under one of its projects. The woman who stays in Umpling have five children and her husband is a daily-wage earner.

In order to conduct the surgery of the woman, the Army got in touch with some cement companies in the states to help the woman under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and many cement companies have promised to pay the bill of the treatment.

Meanwhile, the woman was operated in Super Care Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable. She is able to speak.

The Shillong Chapter of Robin Hood Army is also working aggressively to bring back the runaways (Street Children) into the mainstream under a special project that started in the year 2016.  The organization uses food as a tool to interact with the runaways and has devised a strategy to include this unprivileged section into the mainstream.

The Army every night provides them with food which they collect from their donor Navin Sweets in Laitumkhrah. The shop has been continuously giving food from the shop, not from the table, for the unprivileged kids last one and half year.

In addition, clothes, health check-up formal and informal education are also provided to the kids by the NGO.

Usually, the NGO tries to rehabilitate the kids with some rehabilitation centres or settle them back with their families and as of now, they have managed to rehabilitate around 12 runaways.
