SHILLONG: St Francis Institute, Mawkasing concluded its silver jubilee celebrations in an event held at the institute where Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma congratulated the Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of St Francis of Assisi (CMSF) for having served the region for 25 years.
He stated that Meghalaya has seen fast transformative changes in the socio-economic landscape and added that the agenda of the government is to reach out to all stakeholders in the crucial social sector of education in imparting quality education to empower our youth to become productive citizens and not a liability to the society.
He added that as people of Meghalaya we must understand the strength of education and leverage upon the name and fame of Shillong as a centre of education. He urged the youth to insulate themselves from the pulls and pushes of the challenges that confront us in our daily lives and contribute to the growth and development of the state and the nation as a whole.
Earlier, the chief minister also inaugurated the building to commemorate the Silver Jubilee on the school premises in the presence of Minister, PWD (R) etc M Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA, Mawryngkneng, David Nongrum and Archbishop of Shillong, Rt Rev Dominic Jala.
St Francis Institute was established in 1992 at Mawkasing and is currently running St Francis D Assisi Higher secondary School, St Francis Boys’ Home and the St Francis Holistic Healing Centre (Alternative and Indigenous Medicine) and Dispensary.
