SHILLONG: Kenyan software engineer turned cyclist Peter Ngugi kicked off his cycling mission against racism from the city on Saturday.
Ngugi, who began his journey from Don Bosco here, will pedal his way to Kanyakumari, the southern-most tip of the country, en route to New Delhi covering over 7000 km to spread awareness and sensitize people on the racism faced by African nationals in India.
He reached Guwahati in the evening.
Cyclists from different cities will join the Kenyan national in the later stages.
A social activist, Ngugi took the initiative as Africans have time and again faced racial discrimination at different levels and portrayed as drug peddlers.
During his campaign, he would also interact with communities and try to work out a solution to the problem.
“Meghalaya is one of the most beautiful places in India and racism in this part of the country is not very deep-rooted,” the cyclist said.
