‘Sustainability key element of eco-system’

SHILLONG: India needs scientific capabilities which will determine its capability to overcome challenges like climate change, said NITI Aayog member VK Saraswat on Saturday.
Addressing a gathering at the 4th Annual Convocation of National Institute of Technology at Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah, Saraswat said, “Sustainability is an important element of the eco-system and focus should shift to minimising use of energy, material and wastage using green and sustainable manufacturing processes.”
He also stressed on the need for finding solutions in a timely manner.BB Biswal, director of NIT, said the institute in Meghalaya focuses on research.
The institute in Meghalaya, which has over 800 students, is among the 31 NITs in India established under the NIT Act, 2007, with full funding from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Gautam Biswas, director of IIT Guwahati, said knowledge is the key to achieve economic growth and social development. “Make in India is an initiative to focus on job creation and skill enhancement and it’s a holistic approach to the system of education,” he added. He urged students not to get disheartened by the thoughts of success and failure.
