SHILLONG: As many as 31 educational institutions face the threat of de-affiliation from MBoSE if they do not improve the pass percentage to above 50 per cent in SSLC examinations in the coming years.
According to official data, West Garo Hills tops the list with ten institutions scoring below 50 per cent in the past three years in the SSLC examinations followed by South West Garo Hills with nine.
South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills have three such institutions each, East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi have two while West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills have one each.
As far as HSSLC is concerned, in Khasi Hills, there are two institutions in science stream and three institutions in commerce stream which had scored below 50 per cent.
There are four such institutions in the Arts stream in West Garo Hills, three in South West Garo Hills and one in East Garo Hills.
Recently, the MBoSE had made it clear that educational institutions affiliated to the Board will have to maintain 50 per cent pass percentage if they want to retain the affiliations.
Last month, MBoSE executive chairman Pravin Bakshi said according to the MBoSE regulation for affiliation norms, all affiliated institutions would have to maintain an average pass percentage of 50 per cent in the board examinations.
Analysing the past three years’ record, Bakshi said many institutions had failed to maintain the required criteria in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations.
The board had cautioned such institutions to take necessary steps to achieve satisfactory pass percentage in the coming years.
It had also said it would take necessary action including de-affiliation according to the regulations, if the institutions failed to maintain the required pass percentage.
