SHILLONG: The ‘opt out campaign’ of Aadhar will continue depending on the response of the people in the state, said the members of Meghalaya Peoples’ Committee on Aadhar (MPCA).
PBM Basaiawmoit, member of MPCA, while talking to reporters at the KSU office in Jaiaw on Monday said the organisation was trying to reach out to as many people as they could and highlight them about Aadhar enrolment.
“People have come to take the form individually and will send the withdrawal letter to Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). We will follow up on the letter sent by them to the UIDAI and if there is delay, we will approach the Supreme Court,” he said.
As for the people opposing Aadhar enrolment in other parts besides Meghalaya, he said that the Dimasa apex body in Assam and hill tribes in Manipur had also objected the enrolment of Aadhar.
As per a statement released by MPCA, as many as 226 persons, both male and female from different parts of the Khasi -Jaintia Hills, have come to individually sign documents for opting out from Aadhaar enrolment on Monday.
In a statement issued here, the leaders of Meghalaya Peoples’ Committee on Aadhaar (MPCA) comprising of Auguster Jyrwa, Rev. K. Pyrtuh and Basaiawmoit stated that people had arrived to individually sign documents for opting out from Aadhaar enrolment.
Again, they stated around the same number of persons, had taken draft letters for opting out for signing by family members while MPCA will only facilitate sending them to UIDAI.
Basaiawmoit also said that a delegation from Garo Hills consisting of Rev. Goera M. Sangma from Tura, Pastor James K. Sangma from Tura, Pastor Armith Ch. Momin from Kherapara, Doni Ch. Marak from Garobadha came to meet members of MPCA who wished to be associated with the MPCA. He said that they would facilitate the ‘opt out’ campaign of Aadhar in Garo Hills as well.
For people who still want to opt out, MPCA would provide facilitation till Friday November 3, 2017 at the Office of KSU Central Body, Jaiaw, Shillong between 11 AM and 3-00 PM.
With regard to opting out from Aadhaar enrolment for those from South West Khasi Hills, they may visit the Office of the KSU, South West Khasi Hills located at Mawkyrwat anyday between October 31 and November 3, 2017.
With regard to residents from West Khasi Hills who cannot come to Shillong, it is hoped that date and venue can be fixed for facilitation of withdrawal from Aadhaar enrolment.
