TURA: The NPP MDC from the GHADC constituency of Raksamgre who happens to be the party’s frontrunner for a ticket to contest the legislative assembly from the same constituency is arriving here on Monday evening from Shillong to present himself before Tura police over an assault incident that took place last week.

NPP MDC Benedict R Marak was accused of absconding after a brawl in which he allegedly assaulted one Kadarik D Marak of Bollongitik. The victim is said to be related to one of the brothers of Late P A Sangma. The fight reportedly broke out during a get-together in a village on October 23 last.

Following the incident, another villager by the name of Ashutosh A Sangma went and filed an FIR with Tikrikilla police naming the MDC in the assault case.

Meanwhile, Tura police sources say that the MDC had informed them that he is arriving from Shillong to present his side of the story at the police station.

The case has been brought before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Tura.

“We are waiting for the Court’s direction since the medical report had mentioned the injuries of the victim as minor and the accused has also been cooperating with the case. If the court directs we will register the FIR and take the MDC into custody,” stated a police source in Tura.
