TURA: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has sought two weeks time from the Shillong High Court over the issue of non-payment of staff salary which have accumulated for more than 13 months.
During the hearing that took place on Monday at the court of Justice Vash, GHADC counsel Sujit Dey sought time of two weeks’ for further instruction from the council over the delay in release of salaries of its employees.
Having been denied their monthly dues and other allowances by the district council for more than a year, a group of non-gazetted employees of GHADC moved the HC in Shillong.
The High Court accepted the petition of the council employees and the case is being heard since then in Shillong.
The stand of the employees in the case is that the district council violated a previous order from the High Court directing them to clear all pending salaries within a certain time frame. The petitioners point out that even before the previous dues had been cleared the district council stopped salary payment leading to a staggering debt involving several crores of rupees in payment dues.
