State level Children’s Science Congress begins

SHILLONG: The two-day ‘State Level Congress’ of the ‘25th National Children’s Science Congress-2017’ began on Tuesday  at the Meghalaya Agriculture Management & Extension Training Institute (MAMETI), 5th Mile, Upper Shillong .

Organized by the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education & Literacy, the science congress was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. R.C Laloo who was the Chief Guest at the programme, in the presence of  P.B.O Warjri, State Chief Information Commissioner  who attended the function as the guest of honour, according to a government communique.

During his address to the gathering at the inaugural programme, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr.R.C Laloo expressed happiness at being associated with the programme even as he congratulated the organizers for providing the right platform to the young students from various nooks and corners of the state with an opportunity to engage in mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas, which will in turn help in building scientific temper among them.

Dr. Laloo also expressed optimism that more projects are generated from such platforms in the years to come which may help in the formulation of programmes and interventions by the state government in future.

While highlighting on the fact how each student has an opportunity to make a contribution to the society, State Chief Information Commissioner, P.B.O Warjri, called upon the young minds to use science as a medium to improve the quality of life for the betterment of the state and country.

It may be mentioned that this year, of the 45 projects selected for the ongoing state level congress eight projects will be selected  to represent the State of Meghalaya at the National Children’s Science Congress which will be held at Science City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 27th– 31st December 2017.

Also present at the inaugural function were Dr.B.D.R Tiwari, Secretary, Planning Department & Member Secretary, State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, Jayanta Kumar Sarma, Member, National Academic Committee, National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), distinguished academicians, government officials, students, teachers and parents.

Earlier in the programme, eleven students who secured highest marks in Science & Technology at the MBOSE, SSLC examination 2017 were felicitated as a mark of recognition to their efforts and to further encourage them to pursue science in their future higher studies
