SHILLONG: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, has decided to study the cause of widespread joblessness in the state and non-employment of local youths in big corporate houses here.
Jamil Ahmed, the state president of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), after visiting many villages in Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi districts has lamented on the pathetic situation being faced by the youth in Meghalaya.
In a statement released on Thursday, the party addressed the predominant issue of unemployment in the state.
According to LJP, the problem is predominant not because the state does not have employment opportunities but due to the negligence of the government.
It further accused the state government of turning a blind eye to the issue and neglecting the welfare of the youth.
“The present government headed by Mukul Sangma is doing nothing in this regard and is intentionally trying to avoid the sons and daughters of the soil,” said Ahmed.
He also questioned the government about its agreement with big business houses as per the Industrial Policy of 1997 where a commitment letter was received by the state from these corporate houses to employ local youths and restrict these private business houses to hire people from outside the state in running their industries.
In view of providing job opportunities to the youth of the state, especially those who are qualified or non-qualified, the government must strictly abide by and enforce the memorandum of understanding signed by these business concerns, he said in the statement.
LJP’s state executive committee will study the main cause of non-employment of local youths in these business houses.
