SHILLONG: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has clarified as to why a meeting with the Union members could not be held on Wednesday.
Union members of MeECL had earlier rejected a clause set by senior officials to come for talks .
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the MeECL public relations officer said without intimating the management, representatives of the MeECL Progressive Workers’ Union (MPWU) brought along “unknown persons who are not employees of the corporation” to Wednesday’s meeting. The senior officials had said they would speak to members of the workers’ union and not with any ‘unknown person’.
The statement comes a day after senior officials walked out of a meeting, which was fixed by the Director Corporate Affairs of MeECL, with union members because Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) member Angela Rangad was present.
The Labour Commissioner had called them for another meeting on November 3. The senior officials requested that only representatives of the union should attend the meeting as the grievances relate to internal issues.
“However, the offer was summarily rejected by the president and the secretary of the union who thereafter decided to only submit their petition to the management,” the statement mentioned.
MPWU termed Rangad as an invitee member of the union.
The charter of demands of the union included withdrawal of contract agreement, regularisation and equal pay for equal work.
