SHILLONG: The Congress will stage a protest on the first anniversary of demonetisation on Wednesday, calling it a Black Day, while the BJP will convey to people the benefits of demonetisation.
In a meeting held recently, the MPCC had directed Congress workers in the city, youth Congress and women leaders to gather supporters to stage the protest at Congress Bhawan.
The Congress workers will also light candles and wear black badges at Police Bazar in the evening.
Similar protests will be held in Tura and other parts of the state.
In a statement, Youth Congress president Richard Marak said the Black Day will be observed by MPYC, MPCC and other frontal organisations of the party.
“This is to remind the people the trauma we all faced post demonetisation and GST implementation,” Marak said.
“Demonetisation, the biggest blunder of Modi-led BJP government was instrumental in breaking the backbone of the Indian economy and a reason to render thousands of people jobless,” he said.
Besides Marak, the protest will be led by Cabinet Minister Zenith M Sangma, other MLAs, senior Congress leaders and Youth Congress members.
