MAWKYRWAT: The South West Khasi Hills unit of Khasi Students’ Union has thanked the state health department and health minister Roshan Warjri for inaugurating the primary health centre at Wahkaji village recently.
Constructed in 1997-98, the Wahkaji PHC was not functioning especially after the government handed it over to the Uranium Cooperation of India Limited (UCIL) in 2005.
Forwardman Nongrem, the president of KSU, South West Khasi Hills unit, said the union had from time to time met the director of health services, former health minister, A.L. Hek and present health minister, Roshan Warjri and demanded that the PHC be made functional so that the people from Langpa,  Phlangdiloin and Warsan Lyngdoh have better access to health services.
“The KSU wishes to thank the health department and especially health minister, Roshan Warjri for keeping her promises to inaugurate the PHC,” Nongrem said.
He said the students’ union expected that the PHC would serve the people of Wahkaji-Phlangdiloin-Warsan Lyngdoh area in true spirit.
