SHILLONG: The chief electoral officers of the three poll-bound states, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, will have a meeting with the Election Commission of India in Delhi on Monday.
The state chief electoral officer, Frederick Kharkongor, said over phone on Saturday that the purpose is to discuss pre-poll arrangements.
Following the meeting, the officials of the Election Commission will visit the states.
Earlier on November 9, the state election officials along with police officers had a meeting with the central election officials in Delhi to mainly discuss security-related issues. The meeting also stressed on the need for coordination with Assam in the run-up to the polls.
During the upcoming meeting on Monday, the preparedness of Meghalaya and other northeastern states to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines will also be discussed.
BLO net to be launched
The pilot project of the Election Commission of India, ‘BLO net’, will be launched in Meghalaya along with the poll-bound states.
The BLO net will enable booth level officers to map minute information about polling stations, nearest hospitals, roads and other landmarks.
The purpose is to have a better idea of polling booths. The BLO net will be rolled out in five constituencies, three in the city and two in Tura.
The three constituencies in the city include East Shillong, South Shillong and North Shillong and North Tura and South Tura.
“The BLOs have to map out the latitude and longitude of each and every component of the polling station, nearest landmarks and there should be special enumeration of each and every household and the BLOs should also collect the mobile phone numbers of the voters,” Kharkongor said.
Kharkongor added that the intention is to get the 365-degree knowledge of
)the polling booths and the individual voters.
The closeness of the BLOs with individual voters will be a motivation for them to cast votes, he added.
