SHILLONG: The number of coal-laden trucks detained in the last one week in East Jaintia Hills is a proof of the unabated mining in the area.
Twelve trucks transporting coal were detained recently at Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills, police said.
The police said the drivers of all the trucks escaped. A day before, they had detained 13 trucks laden with illegal coal but the truckers could not be arrested. They also found 30 trucks at Lumshnong on the same day.
Police in Ri Bhoi detected one coal truck at Toll Plaza on the same day.
Around 3pm on November 9, police detected two trucks with Assam registration number at Lumshnong area.
