SHILLONG: The state government employees will get the new pay package from this December.
An official source said on Monday that after the empowered committee that examined the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations submitted the report to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma last week, a Cabinet meeting is scheduled this week to decide on the report.
The empowered committee headed by principal secretary in charge finance RV Suchiang submitted the report much before the expiry of the deadline, which is on November 16.
Earlier on August 2, the Fifth Pay Commission headed by PJ Bazeley submitted the report to the state government.
Following this, the empowered committee was formed to further examine the matter before the Cabinet could take a final decision.
After the report was submitted to the chief minister, the personnel department has also been entrusted to go through the report. An official said the Cabinet will go through both the reports before taking final call.
The official also added that the matter related to arrears, if any, will be decided by the Cabinet.
The common factor in both the reports is about the recommendation of overall hike of 25.6 per cent.
The Fifth Pay Commission had recommended Rs 17,400 per month as the minimum salary for the lowest level staff compared to the current minimum basic of the lowest level employee (Grade IV), which is Rs 6,500 per month.
However, there will be minor changes in the allowances as proposed by the pay panel.
Earlier, on the sidelines of the last Cabinet meeting on November 9, the chief minister had said the government would maintain the timeline so that the commitment to implement the pay package was fructified.
According to the chief minister, the new pay will motivate government employees to work with more dedication and commitment and do justice to the call of duty.
