Govt taking care of disparities in growth: Mukul

SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma has asserted that his government was taking care of the disparities in the development process.
“Bringing development to the state is a continuous process. The government is moving ahead in implementing various schemes and projects and the needs of the people are being taken care of. Transforming the state requires time and planning,” Sangma said after inaugurating the administrative unit at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills district on Tuesday.
The chief minister said the government had sanctioned Rs 1400 crore under MGNREGS this year whereas against only Rs 900 crore last year. He also said the highest budget allocation had been accorded to the education sector and that he would soon be laying the foundation stone for the community college at Rongjeng.
School education and  literacy minister, Deborah C Marak, Rongjeng MLA, Sengnam M Marak, Bajengdoba MLA, Brigady N Marak, secretary, home (police) department, S Kharlyngdoh and East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar were present at the function.
Highlighting the development projects sanctioned by the government in the area, he informed that the 272-km Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road was a major achievement.
The Rs 210 crore Rongjeng-Mangsang-Adokgre road is another significant project, the foundation stone for which had already been laid recently. “This road will be one of the best in the state,” the chief minister said.
Besides, Sangma said the Babadam area in West Garo Hills would no longer remain backward as 127 B national highway would soon be passing through the area.  
On the vacant posts in various government departments, he said there were technical problems which would soon be looked into.
School education and literacy minister, Deborah C Marak said the inauguration of Rongjeng administrative unit was a gift by the MUA-II government to the people.
Speaking on the occasion, local MLA, Sengnam M Marak thanked the chief minister for sanctioning Rs 3 crore for the road project from Rongchek A’—kong to Cheran among other development initiatives in the area.
Earlier, the chief minister flagged off the bus donated to Williamnagar Government College. This was stated in a press release issued here.
