SHILLONG: After the state government challenged the pending PIL on tree felling in the Supreme Court, the latter asked the High Court to dispose of the matter within four months.
During the hearing on the matter on Wednesday, the petitioner brought to the notice of the court the order of November 10 passed by the Supreme Court on the matter after a special leave petition was filed by the state government.
The state government had challenged the orders of the High Court regarding the manner in which the tree felling has to be carried out.
Earlier, the PIL was filed by Advocate K. Paul following the death of three occupants of a moving taxi when a tree on the Raj Bhavan premises fell on the vehicle in August this year.
Later, the High Court put restrictions on tree felling.
After the state government challenged the order of the High Court, the Apex Court requested the High Court to dispose of the PIL within four months and it also observed that if the High Court feels it appropriate, it may constitute an appropriate committee, if not already constituted.
The matter has been listed for final hearing on December 7.
