GREATER NOIDA: The death toll in the killing of a BJP leader here has risen to four after a third man who was wounded in gunfire passed away, police said on Friday.

BJP’s Shiv Kumar Yadav was shot dead along with his driver-cum-guard Bali Nath when gunmen fired at their SUV on Thursday in Haibatpur village of Greater Noida.

The firing punctured one of the SUV’s tyres, and the vehicle then ran over a 15-year-old girl, Anjali, who was crossing the road, seriously injuring her. She succumbed to her injuries in a hospital.

A third man in the SUV, Rahispal, suffered bullet wounds and was rushed to a Delhi hospital where he passed away, the police said.

The assailants fled after the killing.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Suniti Singh had claimed that initial investigation showed the motive behind the murder appeared to be personal.

Shiv Kumar was an accused in a murder and was out on bail. He reportedly joined the Bharatiya Janata Party recently. His father was also murdered in a village rivalry.
