SHILLONG: The central election committee of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will distribute party forms from Friday with a target to release the first list of candidates next week.
Addressing the media on Thursday, PDF president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said, “About 10-15 candidates will be declared in the first list.”
The party has, however, not zeroed in on the last date of submitting the forms.
Brushing aside news reports that PDF has already decided on its candidates in certain constituencies, Marbaniang made it clear that the party has not yet confirmed tickets to anyone.
According to him, from the formation of zonal committees in respective constituencies, the PDF body still requires expansion.
Marbaniang said there was communication from Garo Hills for joining the party and in Jaintia Hills, the party is trying to gain a hold.
On the party’s manifesto, he said at present it is not ready with a manifesto but he read out some of the goals for PDF. These included strengthening of the provisions of the Sixth Schedule, legislating laws to bring transparency in the functioning of towns and villages, uplift of culture, to frame laws for protection of women and children and the disabled.
“The manifesto will be released in December,” he added.
