Election dept to target millennium voters in state

SHILLONG: The election department has taken initiative to enroll millennium voters by January next.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said those who were born in 2000 will attain the age of 18 by January next year and those youths, called millennium voters, will be encouraged to get enrolled.
“We will also rope them in for the National Voters’ Day celebration scheduled for January 25,” Kharkongor said.
He added that the millennium voters will be felicitated on the occasion.
Currently, the total number of voters is 17,68,000 and the election department hopes to reach the target of 18 lakh by January next year.
