SHILLONG: The Cabinet has directed the Education Department to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict of the Meghalaya High Court on the education scam.
The court, while cancelling the entire teacher selection process in five centres, had ordered CBI inquiry into the criminal aspect of the scam pending against politicians and probe into all the centres where examination for teachers’ recruitment was carried out.
“The Cabinet was briefed about the status of the matter pertaining to the issue of recruitment of teachers and the verdict of the court on November 2,” said Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday.
The HC order was examined by the Law Department and based on the observations and submissions of the Law and the Education Departments, the Cabinet has asked the latter to file the appeal.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice VP Vaish had directed all the untainted candidates of the five centres — Shillong Sadar, Jowai, Amlarem, Tura and Dadenggre — whether in service or not, will be allowed to participate in the fresh selection process.
