SHILLONG: The role of pensioners in nation building and their contributions to public service was lauded at 37th annual general meeting of the Meghalaya Pensioners’ Association (MPA) here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the meeting held at the State Central Library seminar hall, R. V. Suchiang, the state principal secretary (finance department) heaped praises on the pensioners, saying they are an inspiration for the younger generation.
Commending the MPA for rendering humane support and working relentlessly for the welfare of pensioners, Suchaing said it was important to have a working association in order to cater and address various issues and problems faced by pensioners.
MPA members from other districts of the state were also present at the meeting.
Presentation of accounts and the budget of the association, election of new office-bearers for the year 2018-2019 and obituary references were the highlights of the business session that followed the inaugural programme.
