SHILLONG: The government’s decision to move the Apex Court against the High Court verdict on the 2010 education scam has been perceived by the opposition as the ruling party’s delay tactic in taking action against the accused.
Opposition leader Donkupar Roy said on Wednesday that he was worried that the decision would affect teachers in service as they would cease to have job security.
Accusing the government of sloppily handling the issue, UDP’s Roy said it should take a decision because “justice delayed is justice denied”.
Echoing Roy’s views, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said those who were involved in the scam must be brought to book.
“The government wants to delay the process of inquiry by appealing in the Supreme Court. This decision is just to buy time and save people who are involved in it,” he added.
The state Cabinet last week had directed the Education Department to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the verdict.
NPP’s state head WR Kharlukhi said, “Now the decision is with the Supreme Court. If it does not give a stay, the process will continue as per the directive of the High Court.”
