SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has referred the case of Mawkynrew legislator Remington Pyngrope, who is likely to defect to the National People’s Party (NPP), to its disciplinary committee.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh said, “Till date, we have not received any communication from him. We have discussed about the matter and we have entrusted the task to the disciplinary committee of the UDP,” he added.
The disciplinary committee has Bindo Lanong and Paul Lyngdoh as members.
Mawthoh said though media reports and other indications hint at Pyngrope’s intention to contest from a different party, it would be clear only after the leader announces it.
“But we cannot say anything for now as he has not communicated to us and it is up to the wisdom of the disciplinary committee,” he said.
According to him, defection cannot be prevented as the country is a democracy and added that the alliance is an alternative government that will lead the state in 2018 which is the hope of the people.
