“Nirjhorini” released

SHILLONG: A book titled, “Nirjhorini” (The Brook) which contained compositions of 70 different write ups in 12 different languages was released on Friday.

Editor/Compiler of the book, Malabika Bisharad, said that writers had penned down prose, poetry in their mother tongue to inspire and inculcate the feeling of love and respect for one’s mother tongue.

Speaking about the book, she said, “Some students have written in English and Hindi but most of the writings in the book is in their mother language.”

“The students get to choose their own subject,” she said, adding that they want to inspire and encourage the thinking in students on what they feel about the modern changing world of technological advancements.

The facsimile collection contains write ups from Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, America and Canada written in languages of Khasi, Jaintia, Garo, Sanskrit, Bengali, Telegu, Hindi, Philippines and English.

Bisharad stated that the book was dedication to Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore due to his literary contribution.

She added that the facsimile collection was called Nirjhorini as the word was featured in one of his book, Shesher Kobita.
