SHILLONG: The sudden decision of party chief DD Lapang and others to opt out of electoral politics has sent wrong signals to party members.
A Congress leader on Friday admitted that at a time when the party is preparing for the Assembly polls, the decision by Lapang, RC Laloo and Roshan Warjri will only weaken the Congress.
A section of the party leaders fears that this will give advantage to the opponents when the party is fighting anti-incumbency and varied criticisms.
In Nongpoh, Lapang’s close aide and senior Congress leader CB Syiem had quit the party and joined NPP.
Similarly, the morale of party workers is low in Jowai represented by Laloo and North Shillong by Warjri.
